At a Government Steering Committee meeting on science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and Project 06, the State Bank of Vietnam Governor Nguyen Thi Hong presented an update on banking sector digital transformation and implementation of the VND 500 trillion credit programme for science, technology, innovation, digital transformation and strategic infrastructure. The national interbank electronic payment system continued operating safely and processed VND 174.1 quadrillion in the first half of 2025, up 42.95% year on year. Across credit institutions, more than 90% of transactions were executed on digital channels and over 87% of Vietnamese adults had a bank account, while non-cash payment turnover in the first five months of 2025 reached nearly VND 140 quadrillion, up 25.21% year on year. In coordination with the Ministry of Public Security on the use of population data, chip-based citizen IDs and VNeID, more than 120.9 million individual customer files and over 1.2 million organisational customer files had been biometrically matched by 4 July 2025, reported as over 100% of the number of digital-channel payment accounts with transaction activity. The Prime Minister directed the State Bank of Vietnam and joint stock commercial banks to deploy the VND 500 trillion package quickly, effectively, to eligible beneficiaries and at low interest rates.
