The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (Swift) announced that Ant International and Standard Chartered Bank have started live production trials of a bank-to-wallet payment solution using ISO 20022 messaging on Swift’s infrastructure, with the first transactions completed between a Standard Chartered customer account and a partner e-wallet in Ant International’s Alipay+ ecosystem. The solution is intended to simplify cross-border money transfers by using the Swift network of more than 11,500 financial institutions in over 200 countries and territories to connect to 1.7 billion user accounts across 36 digital wallets supported by Alipay+, particularly in fast-growing Asian markets. Swift framed the initiative as expanding payment optionality and interoperability through ISO 20022 standardisation.
