The Chile Financial Market Commission sanctioned Banco de Chile with a fine of UF 617.98 after finding the bank granted loans to parties listed in the National Registry of Alimony Payment Debtors (RNDPA). Under Exempt Resolution No. 4,949, the CMF found the bank failed to consult the RNDPA and to withhold and pay the relevant amounts as required by Law No. 14,908 on Family Abandonment and Alimony Payments. The law requires financial institutions to check the RNDPA when granting loans and, where applicants appear in the registry, to withhold up to 50% of the funds to settle outstanding alimony obligations.
