Thailand's Ministry of Finance published an update on preparations for Thailand to host the IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026, following discussions between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Bank of Thailand Governor Vithai Ratanakorn, and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. The parties reviewed operational preparations and expressed satisfaction that planning is progressing smoothly against the agreed workplan. The update highlights the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center as the planned venue and points to Bangkok’s capacity to host major international conferences. It notes that 2026 will be Thailand’s second time hosting the Annual Meetings, after 1991 at the same venue, and frames the host-country theme as “Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience”. The Bank of Thailand positions the meetings as an opportunity to advance “Safe and Inclusive Digital Finance (SIDF) for Financial Wellbeing”, including developing a practical blueprint that other countries can adapt. The Annual Meetings are scheduled to take place in October 2026.
