The National Bank of Moldova reported that Governor Anca Dragu reviewed the country’s financial sector alignment with European Union standards and its EU accession work in a meeting with Dutch Ambassador Esselien van Eerten and Dutch Finance Ministry policy coordinator Alida van Haasteren. The discussion covered reforms to prudential supervision, capital movement, financial market infrastructure, digital finance and sustainable finance, as well as the central bank’s effort to secure European Banking Authority recognition that Moldova’s banking prudential framework is equivalent to the EU framework. Dragu also reviewed Moldova’s operational participation in the Single Euro Payments Area since October 2025. SEPA transfers generated EUR 13.2 million in savings for citizens and businesses during the first 10 months and became the main channel for cross-border euro payments to and from Moldova. The meeting also covered Dutch-supported technical assistance for institutional development, financial education and EU accession negotiations.
