The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) Western Zone has been coordinating and supervising an inspection exercise of motor vehicle insurance in Shinyanga Region and Kahama to ensure vehicle owners comply with the legal requirement to hold valid insurance. The exercise is being carried out with the Traffic Police. TIRA’s Western Zone management reiterated that owners should take out and use valid policies from registered insurers, while passengers were urged to verify a vehicle’s insurance status before travel using the TIRAMIS mobile phone system. Inspections were conducted in Shinyanga from 5 to 6 January 2026 and are scheduled to continue in Kahama from 7 to 9 January 2026.
