Peru's Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Pension Fund Administrators (SBS) has approved the 2026 edition of the Disability Evaluation System Manual (MSEI) governing how disability is assessed and certified in the Private Pension System (SPP) for access to disability pensions. Adopted by Resolution No. 01114-2026, the update consolidates into a single document the various amendments, technical clarifications and general guidelines issued since the first edition of the manual, which had previously been dispersed across multiple directives and harder for the medical committees responsible for evaluations to consult. The SBS highlights three main effects: more consistent and predictable committee decisions by gathering all applicable provisions in one instrument, updated criteria intended to improve technical quality and reduce discretion in assessments, and greater transparency and accessibility for affiliates, users, insurers and medical committees. The 2026 edition also states that the manual’s content must be updated periodically, and the document has been published on the SBS institutional website.
