The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) has ordered the cessation of insurance intermediation carried out through three websites that it says are offering insurance services unlawfully, and has initiated their blocking by internet service providers operating in Italy. The sites named in the order are www.unipolsaicastelmaggiore.it, piottiassicurazioni.it, and www.rca.assicurazioniautopiufaciledicosi.it (including rca.assicurazioniautopiufaciledicosi.it). IVASS noted that blocking actions are in progress and that effective take-down may take several days for technical reasons. The orders are published in the “Difendiamoci dalle truffe” section of the IVASS website, bringing the total number of sites subject to cessation orders since November 2023 to 268. IVASS also urged consumers to exercise caution when evaluating insurance offers via the internet, telephone, or instant messaging, particularly for short-term motor third-party liability policies, and to verify before paying premiums that quotes and contracts relate to authorised undertakings and intermediaries by consulting IVASS’s online registers and lists.
