The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo published an update on Governor Ahmet Ismaili’s bilateral meeting with World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani in Washington DC, held in the context of the 2026 Spring Meetings. Discussions focused on developments in Kosovo’s financial sector, particularly payment system modernisation and regional integration in the Western Balkans, including accelerating Kosovo’s integration into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). The meeting covered progress on the planned instant payments system via the Bank of Italy’s TIPS Clone solution and steps to expand additional services. It also addressed implementation of financing for a newly ratified financial sector project and further work on the deposit insurance regulatory framework to increase coverage and support financial stability. Bassani reaffirmed the World Bank’s readiness to support the central bank’s reforms, and the parties discussed deepening cooperation with a focus on financial sector development and strengthening the central bank’s institutional capacity.
