The Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism will work with the European Data Protection Board on Joint Guidelines to clarify the new information-sharing framework in Article 75 of the AML Regulation. The framework allows companies and professionals subject to anti-money laundering rules to share information with each other and with public authorities, within defined limits, to help detect and prevent money laundering and terrorist financing. The guidance is intended to explain how that can be done while maintaining the required personal data protection safeguards. Article 75 will apply from 10 July 2027. The Joint Guidelines will set out in practical terms how partnerships for information sharing can be structured so that effective cooperation and data protection operate together. The clarification is aimed at firms, supervisors, financial intelligence units and data protection authorities. A joint drafting team from both bodies will lead the work, with further detail on the scope and content of the Guidelines to follow. An event to gather early stakeholder views is planned later this year. A public consultation on the draft Guidelines is expected in the first half of 2027.
