South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance published an account of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Lee Hyoung-il’s first senior officials’ meeting after taking office. Lee directed officials to reassess risks across the real economy and the property, financial and foreign exchange markets, prepare preemptive responses and strengthen macroeconomic analysis and forecasting. Lee assessed that the economy remained on an improving path but faced elevated uncertainty from semiconductor market conditions, shifts in global capital flows and geopolitical risks. He also called for continued attention to investment projects involving the United States, made price stability the foundation of cost-of-living policy and instructed the ministry to develop measures that spread the benefits of recovery across regions, income groups and industries while reducing polarization.
