The China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission held an expanded Party committee study session on artificial intelligence (AI), featuring a lecture by Tsinghua University professor and Chinese Academy of Sciences academician Zhang Bo, and used it to set priorities for AI use in financial services and supervision. The session framed AI as a strategic focus for improving technology finance support to the AI industry and accelerating the financial sector’s digital and intelligent transformation. Director Li Yunze emphasised building a financial service system aligned with the full life-cycle financing needs of future industries, with “technology finance” providing targeted support to AI and other emerging sectors. He also called for balancing development and security by advancing pilot AI applications in the financial industry in a prudent and orderly manner, establishing a governance framework for secure AI development and deployment, and launching construction of the “Jin Jian Project” to strengthen supervisory technology, raise digital supervisory capability, and enhance look-through supervision.
