The National Bank of Moldova published bank-reported statistics on new loans and applied interest rates for July 2025, showing new lending of MDL 7,014.6 million, up 0.9% from the previous month. MDL-denominated loans accounted for 76.0% (MDL 5,329.3 million) and increased 1.4% month on month, while the average nominal rate on new MDL loans rose 0.31 percentage points to 9.35% and the average rate on foreign-currency loans fell 0.07 percentage points to 5.13%. Loans with maturities of two to five years represented 54.9% of new lending, and two-to-five-year loans to legal entities made up 33.6% of total new lending. Households borrowed MDL 2,604.9 million, up 4.3%, mainly for consumption (62.6%); most consumer lending (MDL 1,430.4 million) was in MDL with maturities of two to five years, and the average MDL consumer rate increased to 10.95%. Mortgages accounted for 37.1% of new household borrowing and were contracted predominantly in MDL, with the average MDL mortgage rate rising to 8.25%. Credit requested by legal entities declined 0.9% month on month; non-financial commercial companies took 93.5% of legal-entity loans and accounted for 57.9% of total new lending, while the average MDL rate for legal-entity loans increased to 8.72%.
