The Danish Financial Supervisory Authority has published a joint Nordic statement committing supervisors in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden to more systematic cooperation, initially focused on market abuse and payment services. Agreed at their meeting in Copenhagen on Aug. 27–28, 2026, the statement sets a target for concrete progress in both areas before the next Nordic directors’ meeting in Stockholm in August 2027. For market abuse, supervisors will compare national supervisory practices under the Market Abuse Regulation and identify opportunities for closer alignment, with the aim of making supervisory outcomes more consistent and predictable across Nordic capital markets. For payment services, they will cooperate on implementing and applying the new Payment Services Directive and Regulation, including related Level 2 and Level 3 work. They will identify one or more areas where a common Nordic supervisory approach or guidance could replace separate national approaches, where possible and appropriate. The cooperation responds to closely integrated markets, substantial activity across borders and shared supervisory risks. Structured information sharing, exchanges of supervisory experience and, where appropriate, coordinated supervision of firms and activities with significant relevance across borders are intended to reduce supervisory gaps and fragmentation while respecting each authority’s mandate.
