The Bank of the Lao hosted the 10th ASEAN central bank internal audit working meeting in Vientiane, convening ASEAN member central banks, the Asian Development Bank and other stakeholders to exchange practices on using artificial intelligence to transform and improve the efficiency of internal audit. Discussions and technical sessions covered applications such as automated treasury operation audit and process mining, data analytics and AI for audit transformation and efficiency, and country experiences on deploying AI within internal audit functions, including examples from Thailand and the Philippines. Participants also discussed how AI use can improve audit clarity, accelerate identification of risks and abnormal patterns, support more timely audit work, and reduce repetitive labour and audit costs by shifting staff time toward analysis, planning and complex decision-making. Delegates also discussed hosting arrangements for the next meeting, with Malaysia set to host the subsequent session in 2026.
