The Philippines Department of Finance publicized the launch of the LRT-2 Digital Fare Payments Proof of Concept, under which commuters, including international visitors, can now pay fares at LRT-2 gates using Visa or Mastercard bank cards, NFC-enabled mobile devices, or a GCash QR code. Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go also said holders of the MySSS Card powered by RCBC DiskarTech can use a two-week PISO Fare promotion tied to the rollout. The project brings together the Department of Transportation, the Light Rail Transit Authority and Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation. In remarks at the launch, Go framed the pilot as part of the government’s broader push to make digital financial services cheaper and easier to use, citing the removal of transfer fees for InstaPay and PESONet transactions and saying LANDBANK has offered one free digital transaction a day since May while cutting digital transaction fees to PHP 8 from PHP 15. Go said the pilot could support wider adoption of interoperable digital fare payments across the Philippines public transportation network.
