The Netherlands Ministry of Finance announced that the Dutch cabinet has approved the appointment of Prof. Dr. O.C.H.M. (Olaf) Sleijpen as President of De Nederlandsche Bank, effective 1 July 2025, for a seven-year term, succeeding Klaas Knot. Sleijpen has been Director of Monetary Affairs at De Nederlandsche Bank since 2020 and already deputises for Knot at European Central Bank meetings. The cabinet also approved an exemption from the Top Incomes Standards Act (Wet normering topinkomens), setting a maximum annual remuneration of EUR 450,000 for the role. Finance minister Heinen indicated he intends to shorten future appointment terms for the De Nederlandsche Bank president and other executive board members to preferably five years, with the option of a single reappointment for another five years, subject to obtaining independent advice.
