Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Finance reported that the economic forum of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) has opened at the “Yyldyz” hotel in Ashgabat, with discussions centred on strengthening interregional connectivity for sustainable development. The forum is chaired by Turkmenistan’s Minister of Finance and Economy, Mämmetguly Astanagulow. Opening remarks were delivered by leaders from the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, alongside deputy ministers of economy and trade from SPECA member countries including Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The agenda covers mutual energy connectivity in the Caspian region and beyond, followed by a session on transport connectivity aimed at improving the efficiency of Eurasian transport links. The forum is scheduled to continue until 22 January.
