The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission convened its second working group meeting under a project to develop a strategic plan for voluntary (private) health insurance, aimed at better integrating Thailand’s overall health coverage arrangements in both the short and long term. The meeting reviewed project progress on analysing the national health system landscape and the voluntary health insurance market, and gathered feedback on a draft strategy covering a 1–3 year horizon and a 5–10 year horizon. Thailand Development Research Institute presented the proposed concepts and strategic framework, with the work intended to align regulatory and promotional direction across government and industry, and to be accompanied by an action plan and roadmap. Discussion also highlighted the need to improve equitable access to health protection, particularly for low-income groups, alongside Thailand’s existing public schemes and private health insurance.
