The Austrian National Bank (OeNB) announced that Wolf Heinrich Reuter assumed leadership of its Economics Department on 1 February 2026. In his role as OeNB chief economist, he will be responsible for the central bank’s macroeconomic and economic policy agenda within the Governor’s remit. Reuter studied and completed a doctorate at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and previously worked at the OeNB. He later joined Germany’s Council of Economic Experts in 2016 and became its Secretary General in 2018, before moving to the German Federal Ministry of Finance in 2022 as head of the policy department and most recently serving as State Secretary responsible for economic and financial policy issues and the federal budget.
