The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority’s Unguja regional office met representatives of health insurance schemes operating in Zanzibar to address the registration of health facilities, with participants agreeing that registration should be completed for all facilities they work with. TIRA also reminded schemes that continuing to operate with health facilities that are not registered is a legal offence. The meeting, held at TIRA’s Unguja offices, was attended by representatives from the National Health Insurance Fund and insurers including Strategies, Jubilee, Britam and Assemble. Private health insurance scheme stakeholders also raised concerns about being charged higher service costs by health facilities compared with the National Health Insurance Fund, and proposed that the Price List Committee complete its work as soon as possible; participants further suggested creating a one-stop registration centre where TIRA, the Ministry of Health and other authorities would jointly register or renew health facility licences.
