The European Central Bank published the disaggregated financial statement of the Eurosystem, setting out assets and liabilities by national central bank and the ECB (with consolidation adjustments) as at 4 April 2025. The statement shows a consolidated Eurosystem balance sheet total of EUR 6,338,174 million. On the asset side, securities of euro area residents denominated in euro stood at EUR 4,390,681 million, including EUR 4,111,101 million held for monetary policy purposes, alongside gold and gold receivables of EUR 1,002,214 million and claims on non-euro area residents denominated in foreign currency of EUR 510,056 million. On the liabilities side, the largest items were liabilities to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations of EUR 2,980,682 million (including the deposit facility at EUR 2,818,213 million) and banknotes in circulation of EUR 1,571,098 million; the ECB also notes that “capital and reserves” can be negative for individual national central banks due to the inclusion of accumulated losses carried forward.
