The National Bank of Georgia reported that Vice Governor Nino Jeladze used meetings at CIFIT 2026 to discuss deeper financial sector cooperation with the People’s Bank of China and major Chinese financial institutions. The talks focused on developing financial infrastructure and services to support growing bilateral trade, strengthening links between Georgian and Chinese commercial banks, and expanding correspondent banking relationships. Jeladze also met Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS) Chairman Wang Hongbo to review current and prospective cooperation and progress in CIPS links with Georgia’s central bank and financial sector. This follows earlier efforts to expand Georgian banks’ access to renminbi payment channels, including applications by several banks for direct CIPS membership. The delegation met the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Bank of China and China Construction Bank, while 10 Georgian commercial banks participated in CIFIT for the first time at the invitation of China’s central bank.
