Spain's Ministry of Finance reported shorter average supplier payment periods across all public administration subsectors. In June 2026, the period fell by 0.30 days to 20.55 days for the Central Administration, by 0.74 days to 23.43 days for the Autonomous Communities and by 1.54 days to 8.95 days for Social Security Funds. The overall period for Local Corporations was 26.29 days in the second quarter, down 1.37 days from a year earlier. The Autonomous Communities remained below the 30-day legal limit in aggregate, although the Balearic Islands, Castilla y León and Murcia exceeded it individually. Among local entities, 80.89% of those reporting monthly and 85.19% of those reporting quarterly recorded payment periods of 30 days or less. Despite faster payments, commercial debt among the Autonomous Communities rose by 21.26% from May to EUR 5.62 billion, equivalent to 0.32% of gross domestic product.
