Thailand’s Ministry of Finance, working with the Bank of Thailand and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, announced Thailand’s readiness to host the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The authorities expect more than 15,000 participants from 191 member countries and introduced the overarching theme, "Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience". The release highlights a host-country focus on public-private cooperation, including private-sector participation to create the participant experience and organise side events linked to the theme. Bank of Thailand Governor Vitai Ratanakorn also set out planned work on a "Safe and Inclusive Digital Finance (SIDF) for Financial Wellbeing" framework, aimed at strengthening resilience in the digital financial system through reducing digital financial fraud, strengthening cybersecurity, and improving digital ecosystem readiness, alongside ongoing discussions with the IMF and World Bank Group on collaborative approaches to combat fraud and protect consumers. The first public-private engagement discussion is scheduled for 6 February 2026 at the Ministry of Finance.
