Bank of Albania Governor Gent Sejko and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development representatives discussed potential cooperation on the central bank’s financing program for micro and small enterprises. The EBRD expressed readiness to explore concrete implementation support, extending the Bank of Albania’s efforts to improve smaller businesses’ access to credit. The talks also covered alignment of banking regulation and supervision with European Union standards and support for the Deposit Insurance Agency. Sejko said the well-capitalized and liquid banking system can support further private-sector financing, but credit expansion must preserve loan quality and sound risk management. Following the launch of the We Finance Code in Albania, he also called for participating financial institutions to turn commitments into measures that improve financing and business opportunities for women-led enterprises.
