The Alberta Securities Commission has issued a Notice of Hearing alleging that Calgary residents Dean Labbe and Julie Labbe engaged in illegal insider trading. The case centres on allegations that Dean Labbe obtained material non-public information (MNPI) about publicly traded companies through his work at an investment bank and that he and his mother used that MNPI to trade profitably. The Notice of Hearing alleges the conduct occurred between May 2018 and June 2024 and includes an allegation that, on one occasion, Dean Labbe recommended or encouraged two individuals to purchase shares of a specific company while he possessed MNPI about that issuer. The allegations have not been proven, and an appearance to set a hearing date is scheduled for December 18, 2025; the ASC also acknowledged assistance from the Autorité des marchés financiers in the matter.
