The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert following a Chong Hing Bank Limited press release about fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens that have been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email, or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Individuals who have provided personal information or carried out transactions through or in response to the fraudulent websites or login screens were advised to contact the bank using the contact information in Chong Hing Bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
