The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) announced that the Minnesota Department of Commerce has joined the IAIS Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MMoU), the international agreement that supports supervisory cooperation and information exchange among insurance regulators. The MMoU provides a global framework covering compliance and confidentiality to enable supervisors to cooperate and share relevant information, including to support the supervision of cross-border insurance operations. Signatories are admitted following an assessment of their professional secrecy regimes by an independent team of IAIS members. IAIS noted that, since the first jurisdiction was admitted in June 2009, the MMoU’s membership has expanded to represent around three-quarters of global gross written premiums.
