The Bank of Cape Verde reported holding meetings with the West African Monetary Agency (WAMA) delegation led by its new Director-General, Boima Kamara, focused on regional monetary integration issues in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), including the planned introduction of the ECO currency in 2027. The WAMA delegation, which also included Chief Economist Serigne Seck, met with Bank of Cape Verde board members António Semedo and Tereza Henriques on 26 August 2025 and with Governor Óscar Santos on 2 October 2025. Discussions covered compliance with ECOWAS member states’ convergence criteria, Cape Verde’s position in the monetary integration process, implementation of the ECO in 2027, and Cape Verde’s participation in WAMA activities.
