In remarks at the 2026 Korea Finance Society Forum, Second Vice Minister Huh Jang outlined measures to improve South Korea’s capital and foreign exchange markets and called on financial institutions to support long term investment in artificial intelligence and other future industries. He also urged the Korea Finance Society to connect investment opportunities, technology and capital between South Korea and the United States. The government established a registration framework for RFI-K institutions in September 2026, providing a basis for won transactions through overseas financial institutions. It plans to formally launch an international won settlement network in January 2027, allowing foreign investors to settle won more conveniently during their local business hours. Huh said finance should assess investment viability and direct capital toward more productive uses as the benefits of the artificial intelligence and semiconductor expansion spread to exports and investment. He also highlighted potential gains from combining South Korea’s advanced manufacturing capabilities with U.S. artificial intelligence platforms and software expertise.
