The Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force held a regional workshop in Cairo, with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa and Egyptian partners, bringing together around 50 representatives from law enforcement, prosecution offices, Financial Intelligence Units, international and regional organizations, and blockchain analytics platforms to examine risks linked to virtual assets and virtual asset service providers, implementation of Financial Action Task Force Recommendation 15, and criminal typologies and investigative techniques involving cryptocurrencies, digital wallets, blockchain tracing, decentralized finance, stablecoins, decentralized exchanges, Web3 gaming, and other blockchain-based channels used in trafficking in persons, migrant smuggling, money laundering, and organized crime.
