The Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT) reported that its Asset Recovery Network (RRAG) took part in the inaugural meeting of the Middle East and North Africa Interagency Network of Asset Recovery (MENAARIN) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 8–9 October 2025, marking the network’s formal launch. MENAARIN is intended to coordinate efforts among member states of the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF) to trace, freeze, confiscate and recover illicit assets linked to corruption, money laundering and organised crime. RRAG was represented by GAFILAT Deputy Executive Secretary Juan Cruz Ponce and RRAG co-coordinator Valeria Calaza, who shared RRAG’s challenges and progress in international cooperation and in strengthening secure information-exchange platforms. The meeting also highlighted steps to deepen cross-regional cooperation by linking regional asset recovery networks and converging with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) international standards, with GAFILAT framing the engagement as expanding RRAG’s cooperation links with a region where transnational investigations and cases have been increasing.
