The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has published the final version of its Application Paper on the supervision of artificial intelligence (AI). Updated following consultation in early 2025, the paper sets out how supervisors should apply the Insurance Core Principles (ICPs) to insurers’ use of AI systems, underscoring that existing governance and conduct expectations remain central. It covers risk-based supervision and proportionality, governance and accountability, robustness, safety and security, transparency and explainability, and fairness, ethics and redress. The IAIS also made available the consultation feedback received and its responses. A public discussion webinar is scheduled for 17 July 2025 (13:00–14:30 CEST) to present the final paper and take stakeholder questions, and will also include information on the recently launched consultation on the draft Application Paper on operational resilience objectives and toolkit.
