The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has warned the public about a bank press release concerning scams reported to the authority, including fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and other related frauds. It reiterated that banks do not send SMS messages or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and do not ask for sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who provided personal information or carried out financial transactions through or in response to the scams should contact the relevant bank using the information in the corresponding bank press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force's Crime Wing Information Centre.
