The State Bank of Vietnam published details of the opening of the 2026 Banking Sector Digital Transformation Contest, organised by the Vietnam Banking Trade Union as a sector-wide forum to build digital knowledge and practical capability across the banking system. The event brings together 32 teams and more than 600 participants from commercial banks, other credit institutions, State Bank units, foreign banks and fintech companies, with a focus on strengthening digital skills and generating ideas that can be applied in banking operations. At the opening ceremony, Deputy Governor Pham Tien Dung said the banking sector has been advancing digital transformation through legal framework work, digital infrastructure, non-cash payments and the use of technologies including artificial intelligence, big data and electronic identification. The contest itself is structured around three rounds covering each team's digital transformation message, a live knowledge test on banking digital transformation, and presentations of proposals for future digitalisation, with the final round intended to surface ideas to improve governance, streamline processes and support digital banking development. The competition is being held in Hanoi on 22 May 2026, with a gala awards ceremony scheduled for the morning of 23 May 2026.
