The Bank of Cape Verde reported its participation in the 14th Statistics Meeting of the Central Banks of Portuguese-speaking countries, held in Lisbon, as a forum to deepen cooperation and exchange practices on central bank statistics. Represented by Alice Benchimol, coordinator for monetary, financial and foreign exchange statistics in the Department of Economic Studies and Statistics, the Bank joined representatives from eight institutions to discuss data sharing, methodological challenges, resourcing and efficiency, integrated information management, and combating disinformation, alongside preparation for new methodological standards including the System of National Accounts 2025 (SNA25) and the seventh edition of the Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual (BPM7). The meeting’s conclusions pointed to creating a network to share data and methodologies to reduce discrepancies in external statistics, strengthening human and financial resources in statistics departments, ensuring transparent communication when handling revisions, and advancing Integrated Information Management (GII) with management support, including capturing emerging phenomena such as cryptoassets. Participants agreed the meeting will become an annual event, with Macau set to host in 2026 and Mozambique in 2027.
