The Reserve Bank of India amended its housing finance company directions to bring the conduct of housing finance companies in recovering loan dues and engaging recovery agents under the comprehensive standards applicable to customer-facing non-banking financial companies. The change takes effect on January 1, 2027. The amendment replaces the existing housing finance company guidelines on engaging recovery agents with a requirement to comply with paragraphs 100A to 100AB of the Reserve Bank of India’s Non-Banking Financial Companies – Responsible Business Conduct Directions, 2025.
