The Central Bank of Luxembourg and STATEC reported a provisional current account surplus of EUR 514 million for the first half of 2026, an improvement of EUR 583 million from the same period in 2025. They also revised Luxembourg’s annual current account surpluses sharply lower, to EUR 900 million from EUR 6.2 billion for 2024 and to EUR 600 million from EUR 4.3 billion for 2025, mainly because of revisions to services trade. The first-half goods surplus rose by EUR 452 million to EUR 1.04 billion as imports fell 4% and exports declined 1%. The services surplus increased 18.5% to EUR 14.23 billion, including a 4% rise in the financial services balance linked partly to a 16% increase in average assets managed by collective investment undertakings. In the financial account, direct investment was negative for both assets, at EUR 15 billion, and liabilities, at EUR 42 billion. Luxembourg equities recorded EUR 151 billion of net portfolio inflows, largely through collective investment undertakings, while resident institutions invested EUR 41 billion in foreign equities and EUR 134 billion in foreign debt securities. Other investment increased by EUR 100 billion abroad and EUR 98 billion into Luxembourg, mainly through loans and deposits.
