The Central Bank of Russia has registered the first five digital depositories and four organizations conducting digital currency exchange activities, establishing the initial group of regulated infrastructure providers under the transitional provisions of the law on digital currencies and digital rights that took effect on Sept. 1, 2026. From registration, the entities must follow rules for executing and recording transactions involving digital currencies and digital rights. They must bring their activities into full compliance with the legislation by Sept. 1, 2027. Digital depositories may record and transfer these assets and provide clients with access to the address identifiers where they are held, while registered exchanges may buy and sell digital currencies on their own behalf and account outside organized trading.
