The Central Bank of Belize has expanded its delegation of authority to authorised dealers, allowing customers to purchase foreign currency directly from their domestic banks to prepay for imported goods expected to arrive in Belize without prior exchange control approval, up to a maximum of BZ$100,000, effective 4 August 2025. Prepaid import transactions above BZ$100,000 will still require Central Bank approval. Under the updated delegation of authority, authorised dealers may approve the sale or transfer of foreign currency payments for prepaid imports where a valid pro forma invoice is submitted, in line with Exchange Control Direction Number 5 (2025).
