The Luxembourg Ministry of Finance reported that Finance Minister Gilles Roth participated in the Eurogroup and informal Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) meetings in Warsaw from 10 to 12 April 2025, where ministers reviewed euro area economic developments and policy coordination and discussed issues affecting European financial markets. In the Eurogroup, ministers assessed exchange rate and inflation trends in preparation for the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington DC, drawing on analysis from the European Commission and the European Central Bank. Discussions at the informal ECOFIN brought together finance ministers and central bank governors to exchange views on the competitiveness of European financial markets, including in the context of the Savings and Investment Union and the role of markets in supporting investment; Swiss President and Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter and Norway’s Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg also took part. A dedicated ECOFIN session addressed the financing of common European defence in the current geopolitical context, and Roth held a bilateral exchange with Keller-Sutter on the margins.
