The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public following a Bank of East Asia press release on a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing users to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS (including via embedded hyperlinks). Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent website or login screen is advised to contact the bank using the contact details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
