The National Bank of Moldova marked the 35th anniversary of Moldova’s independence by issuing a commemorative coin engraved with an excerpt from the 1991 Declaration of Independence. In an anniversary message, the central bank also reviewed Moldova’s financial modernization and European integration, describing the banking sector as stable, well capitalized and highly liquid. The MIA Instant Payments system now connects almost 1 million users, businesses and public institutions and has processed more than 31 million transactions worth about MDL 28.5 billion. The bank also reported continued gains from Moldova’s 2025 connection to the Single Euro Payments Area: eight in 10 euro transactions now use SEPA, generating more than EUR 13 million in savings for citizens and businesses during the first 10 months. It will continue aligning financial legislation, regulation and supervision with European Union standards while pursuing price and financial stability, payment modernization, financial education and EU integration.
