The Bank of Russia will issue a RUB 2 silver commemorative coin titled “Satirist Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin, Timed to the 200th Anniversary of His Birth” as part of the Outstanding Personalities of Russia series on 20 January 2026. The proof-quality coin (catalogue no. 5110-0192) contains 15.55 g of fine silver with fineness 925/1,000 and has a diameter of 33.0 mm. The obverse depicts the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation alongside inscriptions for “Russian Federation” and “Bank of Russia”, the denomination, the year 2026, the metal’s chemical symbol, fineness, the Saint Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content. The reverse features a portrait of Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin and figures of governors from his novel “The History of One Town”, with inscriptions including his name and the dates 1826–1889; the edge is corrugated. Mintage is 3,000 pieces, and the coin is legal tender in the Russian Federation and must be accepted for all payments at face value.
