The National Bank of Moldova will hold its second international conference on policy coordination for European convergence in Chisinau on Oct. 1-2, in partnership with the Bank of France and the National Bank of Romania. More than 120 representatives from central banks, public authorities, international organizations and the financial sector will examine fiscal space and monetary anchoring as Moldova’s European integration accelerates. Discussions will focus on the appropriate monetary regime for the preaccession period, the economic effects of deeper integration into the European single market and the management of related fiscal risks. National Bank of Moldova Governor Anca Dragu identified the balance between inflation targeting and exchange rate stability, while preserving gradual convergence toward the euro area, as a central policy choice. The agenda will also consider policy sequencing, productivity, foreign investment and lessons from other small integrating economies, with European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Valdis Dombrovskis scheduled to address European integration.
