Mexico's National Commission for the Protection and Defence of Financial Services Users (CONDUSEF) published state-level complaint indicators for Chiapas, reporting 3,851 complaints in 2024, a 7.5% decrease from 2023 and 1.5% of national complaints. Chiapas recorded 777 complaints in January–February 2025. Recoveries totalled MXN 21.7 million in 2024, down 41.2% from 2023, and MXN 3.4 million in January–February 2025. The most complained-about products were debit cards, credit cards and the special credit report, together accounting for 47.9% of complaints in the state. The leading causes in 2024 were disagreement with the tax identification number (RFC) shown in the report, denial of compensation payment and unrecognised internet purchases, representing 26.0% of complaints (18.9% in January–February 2025). By sector, commercial banking accounted for 50.2% of complaints, followed by credit bureaus (18.7%) and insurers (14.6%); within commercial banking, outcomes favourable to users were 40.3% in 2024 (42.5% in January–February 2025), with 25.8% of these complaints linked to older adults and 51.6% tied to potential fraud. CONDUSEF also reiterated that its procedures are free and available through its digital channels, including its electronic complaints portal and the REDECO register for reporting debt collection misconduct.
