The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control removed 125 individuals and entities from its sanctions lists and updated 22 entries as part of its sanctions modernization effort. The removals cover deceased individuals, defunct companies and entries lacking enough information for effective compliance screening, following an interagency review of potential foreign policy and national security effects. The updated entries add new identifiers and remove outdated information to reduce false positive matches and the need for manual reviews by financial institutions and businesses. The action forms part of a broader review intended to keep sanctions aligned with current economic, foreign policy and national security priorities, including reassessing programs that no longer support those priorities. Treasury has also recently introduced a Reconsideration Portal through which listed persons, property or authorized representatives can submit delisting petitions and request certain information underlying sanctions determinations.
