Bank Indonesia announced that Indonesia’s Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard Cross-Border initiative received the 50-in-5 Awards 2026 in the Collaboration category. The award recognized its interoperable approach to connecting domestic payment systems across countries without requiring them to adopt a common platform, enabling Indonesians and international visitors to pay through familiar domestic applications. QRIS Cross-Border cooperation covers Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and China. From its initial implementation in 2022 through July 2026, users from partner countries completed 21 million transactions in Indonesia worth IDR 5.90 trillion, while Indonesian users made 4.67 million transactions abroad worth IDR 1.73 trillion. Indonesia’s domestic QRIS network reached 45.46 million merchants as of July 2026, of which 96.69% were micro, small and medium enterprises. Bank Indonesia plans to expand QRIS Cross-Border to potential partner countries with strong economic, trade, tourism and mobility links, adapting implementation to each country’s domestic framework.
