The Moroccan Insurance Authority reported that it hosted meetings in Rabat of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors working groups on Emerging and Developing Market Economies and insurance protection gaps from 3 to 5 June 2026. The discussions brought together supervisors and experts to review recent developments in insurance supervision and the main challenges facing insurance markets, with a focus on financial stability, risk-based supervision, consumer protection, supervisory capacity building, digital issues, cyber risk, and climate risk. A central theme was uneven protection against natural disasters and how to strengthen the resilience of economies and populations. Participants examined ways to assess protection gaps, tools for natural risk modelling, and public-private cooperation mechanisms to improve coverage. The meetings also served to compare approaches across jurisdictions, particularly in emerging and developing economies, and included a presentation of Morocco’s experience in covering the consequences of catastrophic events in the context of current risk protection and management challenges.
